How To Deal With Dry Skin, Through Pregnancy And Beyond

Who ever thought that dry skin would be an issue during pregnancy? Honestly, anyone who has been pregnant before. Many women are surprised at how itchy their skin becomes during pregnancy. When you think about it, it makes sense. As your abdomen stretches and enlarges, it becomes tight and itchy. Dry skin care during pregnancy does not have to make you miserable. Many women swear by cocoa butter to ease this situation. Many also claim that it reduces stretch marks as well. There are many great skin creams that may be used as long as strong scents and chemicals are avoided.

What appears to be dry skin can also be an issue for newborns. In fact, it is quite common. What this condition actually is, is the skin’s adjustment to conditions outside of the womb. Remember, this newborn has been in fluid for about nine months or so. Do not scrub or scrape at the baby’s skin. It will generally heal itself. While in the baby bath, rub the baby gently with a soft, wet cloth. After bathing, baby lotion may be applied to add comfort and softness. Again, remember to stick with fragrance free, natural skin products.

Breast feeding mothers are all too familiar with uncomfortable, dry, sore, itchy nipples. This is the result of nursing and expressing breast milk. You want to give your baby the best, and yet, at times the discomfort can seem unbearable. The first thing you want to do, is to get yourself a double electric breast pump. This will save time, and keep the breast more comfortable. The time spent in expressing breast milk will literally be cut in half. Use nursing pads. This will keep any leakage from sitting against the skin, and creating more dryness. Look in the local pharmacy for creams that are made especially for the comfort of nursing mothers.

Chronic skin conditions should be seen by your doctor, to ensure that a medicated skin cream is not required. There is no gain in being more uncomfortable than necessary. Do not ever be too embarrassed to ask about this, or any other issue. These doctors truly have seen it all.

If your pregnancy has been planned, you should take the opportunity to get as healthy as you can before hand. Exercise, eat right, avoid cigarette smoke, alcohol, and chemicals. In other words, avoid anything that you would not put directly into your baby’s mouth. Remember, pregnancy is a relatively short amount of time, when compared to the lifetime of the unborn child. If the pregnancy was not planned, begin being healthier as soon as you suspect that you may be pregnant.

Minor fixable issues should be the least of your concerns during pregnancy. Be sure to deal with them as soon as they begin.

Take good care of yourself, and enjoy a healthy pregnancy, and a beautiful newborn.
